Nate’s practice focuses on technology law and commercial transactions for emerging technology, entertainment and media companies. He has over 15 years of experience in dealing with intellectual property licensing, online privacy, product distribution, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliance, advertising, joint venture, trademark and copyright issues.
Following his graduation from the University of Michigan Law School, Nate joined the corporate securities group at Perkins Coie LLP, Seattle’s largest full-service law firm. Immediately following his tenure at Perkins Coie, Nate focused on corporate development endeavors for emerging technology companies, first at UrbanEarth.com (sold 2000), and later as the first full-time employee of Whitepages, Inc., where he served as vice president of corporate development and oversaw Whitepages’ day-to-day operations and business development endeavors. Over a two-year period, Nate successfully took Whitepages from a single employee company with limited revenue and Internet reach to profitability. He was instrumental in securing and negotiating Whitepages’ first multi-million dollar revenue generating deals.
Nate then returned to practicing law on a full-time basis, primarily advising emerging technology companies on their day-to-day legal issues. In 2007, upon the request of Whitepages’ management, Nate returned to Whitepages as its general counsel. After his second stint at Whitepages, Nate formed Focal with attorney Venkat Balasubramani.
