Kym advises startups and growing companies on corporate governance, venture financings, mergers and acquisitions, and other strategic transactions, as well as their day-to-day corporate matters. She enjoys working with companies throughout their growth and helping clients work through legal issues with their broader business goals in view.

Before joining Focal, Kym was an associate in the corporate and securities practice at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, where she represented public and private technology and life sciences companies. Her work there included venture and debt financings, follow-on and secondary offerings, SEC reporting, corporate governance, and general corporate representation. She earned both her J.D. from Yale Law School and her M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management, and that combined legal and business training shapes her practical approach: understanding the business objective behind a legal question, not only the question itself.

Kym was drawn to Focal by its collaborative, down-to-earth culture and its practical approach to legal counsel. She particularly enjoys working closely with entrepreneurs and being part of a team that gives useful, business-minded advice without unnecessary complexity.

Outside of work, Kym is a runner and avid traveler who is usually planning her next adventure. She enjoys hiking, camping, and exploring the Pacific Northwest with her Mini Australian Shepherd.
