FIRM PROFILE

Focal was founded by Venkat Balasubramani and Nathan D. Webb — lawyers with extensive law firm and in-house experience. Its founders also have entrepreneurial experience, having successfully launched and managed start-up companies. Consequently, Focal lawyers understand the role of legal services and that business people are looking for business-oriented solutions to legal matters. This experience forms the basis of the firm’s philosophy.

What makes us unique? First, we value efficiency and strive to minimize unnecessary overhead and costs. For example, we don’t have expensive office space, and can pass on these savings to the client. Second, we understand the value of specialization. We focus on transactions or disputes involving Internet, media, or technology companies and on addressing the day-to-day needs of these types of companies. Because we are focused, our clients don’t need to spend their limited legal budgets on educating lawyers on their technologies. Finally, we are not beholden to the billable hour. We align our success with our client’s success and will work with clients to come up with a billing structure that best accomplishes this goal — whether by flat-fee, contingency other alternative billing arrangements.
